On the album's title track, the group responded to Geffen Records ending its distribution deal with Def American. The album cover features a picture of the injured Bushwick being carted through a hospital by Scarface and Willie D. A high-profile incident in which Bushwick Bill lost an eye in a shooting helped boost sales of the group's 1991 album, We Can't Be Stopped. In the early 1990s, several American politicians attacked rap artists associated with the sub-genre gangsta rap, including the Geto Boys. Records (with marketing for the album done by WB sister label Giant Records) because of controversy over the lyrics. The group's 1990 self-titled album, The Geto Boys, caused Def American Recordings, the label to which the group was signed at the time, to switch distributors from Geffen Records to Warner Bros. This new line-up recorded the 1989 album, Grip It! On That Other Level. With the release receiving very little attention, the group broke up shortly thereafter and a new line-up was put together with the inclusion of Scarface and Willie D, both aspiring solo artists.

The group released their debut album in 1988 entitled, Making Trouble. The first single the group released was 'Car Freak' in 1986, which then followed with two LPs 'You Ain't Nothin'/I Run This' in 1987, and 'Be Down' in 1988. When Raheem and Sir Rap-A-Lot left, the group added DJ Ready Red, Prince Johnny C, and Little Billy (the dancer who later came to be known as Bushwick Bill). Pitchfork Media ranked the song #45 on its Top 200 Tracks of the 1990s list, with reviewer Tom Breihan writing вЂњThis track established the South as a serious force in the music, proving that these Texans could do dark better than anyone on either coast.The original 'Ghetto Boys' consisted first of Raheem, The Slim Jukebox, and Sir Rap-A-Lot. The track вЂњ Mind Playing Tricks on MeвЂќ has been singled out for praise. Three tracks have all three members on the rapping roster, including a short verse from DJ Ready Red on the title track. In We CanвЂ™t Be Stopped, each member of the group has three solo tracks. During the recording of the album, DJ Ready Red, one of the original Geto Boys members, left the group for personal reasons.

We CanвЂ™t Be StoppedВ took only a few weeks to record. Bill has expressed regret over the album cover, saying вЂњIt still hurts me to look at that cover because that was a personal thing I went throughвЂ¦ I still feel the pain from the fact IвЂ™ve got a bullet in my brainвЂ¦ I think it was pretty wrong to do it, even though I went along with the program at first.

The other two Geto Boys members and the groupвЂ™s management team took Bill out of the hospital room in order to take the picture, removing his eyepatch and intravenous drip in the process. Bushwick Bill wanted her to kill him and during the altercation he was shot as both hands were on the gun. Bill was shot in the eye as he and his girlfriend tussled over a gun. The album cover is a graphic picture of member Bushwick Bill in the hospital. We CanвЂ™t Be StoppedВ was certified Platinum in early 1992. The album is analysed track-by-track by Geto Boys in Brian ColemanвЂ™s book Check the Technique. It was among their most successful records in terms of units sold. We CanвЂ™t Be StoppedВ is the third studio album by Geto Boys, released on July 9, 1991.
